New molecular information on potential therapeutic targets or tools for non-invasive diagnosis for endometriosis, are important for patient care and treatment. Whilst much work has been dedicated establishing genomic profiles, only few efforts have carried out at the protein level. Forendo’s academic collaborators from the University of Turku have been in major role in a novel screening work of the proteins in patient endometrium and ovarian endometrioma by a mass spectrometric approach. Using the method involving accurate inclusion mass screening, data dependent and directed MS analysis the study group has identified 214 differentially expressed proteins in ovarian endometrioma and endometrium. Subsequent mRNA microarray analysis further revealed an ovarian endometrioma specificity for a subset of these proteins. The study provided the most comprehensive overview of the proteome profile in the ovarian endometriosis to date.
